The Third Way for JPS emerges

Posted below is the Memorandum of Understanding for the "Third Way" for Jackson Public Schools.  Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba presented it to the City Council last night.  The council approved it on a vote of 6-0.  The Mayor also said that Governor Phil Bryant will announce the members of the Commission overseeing the "Third Way" tomorrow.

Damn if they haven't gone and one upped Harvey Johnson with a document that says nothing proposing to deliver something undefined without funding! Maybe they can take on Farish Street next!!!

I have more confidence in nuclear fusion as a viable, limitless source of clean energy than I do in the success of anything coming from this MOU. I wonder what the other Mississippi school districts who have been or will be taken over think of this? I feel more court action coming on that front...

Did Ben Allen sign on to this plan? If not, we need to back up and start over! Loft Apartments depend on the success of our education footprint.

@6:58 the takeover process is effectively dead. Bryant has been duped and now students in failing districts statewide will be sacrificed to their fate. Further district consolidations are also DOA.

Yall lost and we won. You mad bro?

Justice Troll: not mad but sad "bro". Sad that Phillbilly "Ray Guy" Bryant fell for the SJW's story which is just a ruse to protect central office jobs. Do you think that MOU is going to right size JPS by cutting hundreds of administrative jobs and consolidating schools? Mayor Free the Land fired Yarber the Mad Paddler's School Board so he could put in people loyal to him only. Sad for the kids that have to wait out the one year to study the problem. At least MDE had a plan that started on Day 1 "bro". Sad that we'll have to wait 2 years and leave it up to Governor Hood to sign the emergency declaration.

Not true. Yarber's appointees but for one resigned from the board earlier this year.

I watched the City Council discussion the other night on this topic. Mayor said flat out that JPS needed to cut things and although it would be painful, it needed to be done. He cited Desoto and the fact it has 6500 more students and fewer schools. They also discussed JPS being top heavy and that the national average of teachers/total number of employees was 60%. They said JPS needed to get to that standard and it wouldn't be painful.

Look, one thing that is good about this third way is a Mayor trying to get involved with JPS. He can reduce the crime and repave the streets but all that will be for naught if the schools are not fixed. Shiny new streets don't mean as much when your choice is to send your children to an F or D school or spend five figures on a private school each year.

Past Mayors ignored education as they appointed and forgot. Don't slam him for trying to lead. Of course, if he screws up, we can always criticize him. That is part of leadership too. ;-)

KF: Strong points. I hate to sound cynical because if all this helps JPS kids, then that is what matters but realistically that could all just be appeasement talk for the Governor. The Mayor has said they would study the problem for a year (that sounds familiar--I'm looking at you Legislature). Is the Mayor really going to put 1,000 citizens out of work? Will all the hard work/decisions be put off until and contingent upon the results of this Kellogg study? At least the Ed Dept was ready to clean house and do the hard work immediately. Sorry JPS Class of 2018 and 2019.

The only losers are the children. They are used to it by now. They have not mattered in many years and this is just the latest proof that nothing is going to change.
Other cities have law enforcement to protect them from the children no one cares about.
Jackson has learned to live with them, or those who survive.

Justice for Tyrion said...

Give the mayor a chance to get involved and fix it. Meanwhile, Gov Bryant and state leadership have some cleaning up to do at MDE. Plenty of corruption and inefficiencies with that organization.

Kingfish you seem to be indirectly giving the Mayor an executive power that does not exist. Beyond board nominations he has no control over JPS. None. The school board is never going to make any sort of painful right-sizing cuts. Never. So it is politically expedient for Lumumba to say all the right things now just as it will be easy for him to politically blame the board when the dirty work goes undone.

Kingfish said...

Not disagreeing with you one bit. Time will tell.

The mayor may be radical, but WOKE he's not!

The only people duped in this entire
situation are the students of JPS. If the radical mayor thinks for ten hot seconds that the conservative governor gives two sneezes about the success of black and brown children, then I have swampland for sale in D.C./Russia!

The conservative governor's foremost concerns were those boisterously expressed by Hawkins(Madison SD), Fisher(Clinton SD) and Windham (Pearl SD). If the state took over JPS, those failing black and brown students could matriculate to not only better districts, but the best districts MS has to offer, white, 'A' rated systems?!

If Lumumba remains radically obtuse to Bryant's overt M.A.G.A speciousness,
Jackson SD will lanquish in inequity, ignominy and inadequacy for years to come!

@9:23pm/I agree that keeping JPS students out of adjoining districts was likely a part of the Gov's thinking but you got to slow your roll on the whitey charge. Clinton is 53% black, Madison is 40% (above state avg) and I guess I will give you Rankin which is 26%. All A or B districts. Black does not equal bad and white does not equal good.

When the public schools were intergrated in Jackson children were bussed from one side of town to the other. To solve the problem now because of white flight, let's bus children from Jackson to Madison & Madison to Jackson. I'm sure Mayor Hawkins would help all the children.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
