Another good year for murder in Jackustan.

Bring on the Conventioneers!

Jackustan's thugs need more victims.

Please name the last visitor to be killed in Jackson who wasn't committing a crime or didn't know their assailant.

Please name the last visitor to Jackson.

Shadowfax said...

How the hell would anybody know whether or not a visitor to Jacktown 'knew his assailant'? That's about as important as whether murder victims were wearing wingtips or Air Jordans.

Anonymous said...

James Craig Anderson. Didn't know his assailant, wasn't doing anything illegal AFAIK. I think both he and his murderer lived outside Jackustan. Made international headlines, putting Mississippi's image back a century or so.

Next stupid question?

Anonymous said...

Hang tight because the cheerleaders have nothing but stupid retorts and questions.

The southern district of Miss. finally got a federal prosecutor yesterday so the high and mighty (illegal and immune)...take notice of the resources now resident at the courthouse. The Senators will not wave off an investigation anymore.

What's up with the name Jackustan? In what way does that name apply to Jackson? Doesn't even make sense, just like the first comment. The cat is out of the bag - Jackson has a crime problem, you really don't need to keep repeating something that has been said a million times over. However, that crime problem has been exaggerated by people that live outside the city. By listening to some people that live in the suburbs, one would think that our crime problem would rival Detroit's, Chicago's, or Memphis's.... well it does not. It does not even come close. When you portray that image, you only perpetuate the problem. It does not help anyone, and frankly, people are starting to become tired of it. We could have a really great city, it is just unfortunate that some people want to hold us back.

Anonymous said...

Shadowfax, I did not post the comment to which your question refers. However, the answer to your question is so obvious that I can answer that for you.

Whether a victim knows the assailant is relevant because it indicates the liklihood that a similar crime could happen to anyone that is in the area. For instance, unless you are dealing with shady individuals (i.e. you are there buying drugs), there is much less of a chance you would be subject to a violent crime while you are there.

It is relevant because it means that the average shopper at Highland Village or Fondren is not taking a high risk that they are going to get mugged. Notice I did not say that it has never happened, so don't get overly eager and desparately search google for any instance that you can post on here to prove me wrong.

Shadowfax said...

@ 9:38; Why would I bother to use Google in an attempt to prove wrong someone who makes absolutely no sense to begin with? I'm sure you tried; but, you simply made no sense.

Excuse me? EXCUSE ME?

In 2012 Chicago had one murder for every 5277 citizens.

In 2012 Jackson had one murder for every 2786 citizens.

Any deranged apologist who tries to make the argument that Jackson is safer than Chicago needs to commit themselves for a psychiatric evaluation ASAP.

THis got posted in wrong spot.......Anonymous said...
This thread started with someone implying that convention visitors would be killed. I think the point was correctly made, despite Shadowfaxs inability to understand, that the vast majority of murders are committed by people engaged in criminal activity or who knew their attacker. Hence, a convention visitor is statistically safe. But don't let those facts interfere with those who want to write a certain narrative for Jackson.

Shadowfax Remains Unconvinced said...

And what is the evidence upon which you base your theory? "A convention visitor is statistically safe"? What proof of that can you offer?

Would you also assert that a rodeo event visitor is statistically safe from being mugged, robbed, killed outside a motel across from the Coliseum or having his truck/horse-trailer vandalized? Those statistically safe people recently ceased having children's rodeos in the capital city because of their statistical safety, and moved the even permanently to Hattiesburg. They GAVE the reason as lack of safety.

And while I love to eat at the Elite Restaurant, please don't pander to me by claiming it's because I'm less likely to be held up there than I am at the Krystal on North State Street.

And since it may be true that a patron of one of the outdoor-umbrellaed cafes in the Fondren area is statistically safer than someone sitting on a curb having a beer in Belhaven, who is going to base their movement on such idiotic claims?

Should we look for the convention center brochures to add a tag line such as: Notice ~ It's felt by some that you have less of a statistical probability of being killed here than you would buying weed at a gas station on Highway 80 where you might know your killer.

9:15: What is "holding you back" is your leadership/lack thereof and your crime in the city. Make an effort to fix those two elements and you just might have a decent city again - Until then, you will not!!!

Anonymous said...

The folks who argue statistical safety SFax are the apologists who can not own up to their own political impotence and inability to force the ruling class of political pimps to address the real issues for Jackson's decline.

Anonymous said...

So since there are shootings in Canton I should be afraid to bein Madison the City?

Anonymous said...

"political pimps". Why not just come out and use the N word?

Anonymous said...

No, 7:04. No more than you should be afraid to live in Clinton because of the murder and crime rates in Jacktown. Madison has nothing to do with Canton crime. Madison has arguably three police officers for every two city blocks night and day. 'Shootings' in Canton are a stand-alone dilemma. Crime in Jackburg stops at the Pearl River Bridge, The outer limits of Byram, the I-220 merge with 20 and the Ridgeland city limits. Get your head out of your ass.

Anonymous said...

Allen and Whitwell are "political pimps". The term isn't limited to the black community.

LOSER.

Shadowfax said...

"So since there are shootings in Canton I should be afraid to bein Madison the City?"

Definitely not.

There are shootings in Canton. Madison has an effective and proactive police department and is safe by comparison.

There are shootings in Jackson. Clinton, Raymond, Pearl, Brandon and Flowood have effective and proactive police departments and are safe by comparison.

There are shootings in every corner of Jackson, but, it's possible, if you study the statistics, to find a place where, on any given night you might NOT be shot. All it takes is a little research and a lot of denial.

It never fails that someone who can not refute will play the race card as 7:06 PM.

Driving Lakeland into Jackistan at noon today, when I passed Smith Wills, I was reminded of the visitor to the city from Vicksburg (I believe) who was shot and killed in the parking lot of the crawfish shack. His vehicle was being 'jacked' right in front of he eyes and he was run over deliberately and killed. I don't think the news reported him 'knowing his attackers'.

Anonymous said...

Shadow fax. You are pretty passionate in an argument in which you literally have no stake. The people you are arguing against may be overly optimistic about Jackson, but at least they are trying to help the city's image, which needs help. Jackson has a crime problem. Okay, we get it. Thanks for the constant reminders and contributing to a bad perception of the city, something that in no way helps the situation.

Anonymous said...

And quit calling it jackistan... It's Jackson and you're a dousche

Anonymous said...

Shadowfax.....in a metro area of 500k there are going to be instances. The fact that only a handful can be recounted as anecdotal evidence does not change the fact that vast majority of murders happen between people who know each other.

Anonymous said...

"So since there are shootings in Canton I should be afraid to bein Madison the City?"

No, stupid, you should be afraid to be in Canton"

Sheeeshhhhh

Anonymous said...

Here is a fact for you. How did that MLK Day parade work out for you Jackson? I guess that bullet whizzing through a crowd wasn't real, it was just perceived.

Shadowfax said...

For the Jackistan apologists, this was posted earlier by anon. It bears repeating:

So..........will someone with a computer do the math and let us know how Jackson compares to SheCarGo?

Anonymous said...

@January 20, 2013 at 3:20 PM... I guess a Robert E. Lee Day parade would have been more to your taste?

Anonymous said...

And in response to the MLK parade shooting, the Jackson City Council today passed an ordinance to fine children $25.00 for riding a bicycle without a helment. Hey 1:11PM, you have an incompetent city government. Until you own that problem and go out to fix it, you are just another part of the problem.

Anonymous said...

Probably would have been better if the City Council required bike riders to wear bullet proof vests.

Anonymous said...

@1:04 keep pretending like you know what you are talking about. The bike helmet law was in response to a MLK shooting?? That ordinance has been in the works long before MLK day. It has to do with avoiding injury from bicycle accidents, not crime.

You are also part of the problem. People that see a problem and sit back and complain about it, rather than being proactive are always part of the problem. Your type and Lumumba are one in the same when it comes to making Jackson's problems worse.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
