Reader don't like Obamacare

An attorney I know gave me permission to post this little comment about Obamacare from her Facebook page. She found out what privacy means under the new law.

I am totally embarrassed by a couple of Republicans saying and doing asinine things recently, but want to get out this WORD. Went to a health care provider today who is complying with the requirements of Obamacare. My visits, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment plan, (all for my neck) are required to be placed on the internet where all the health care providers, government and insurance companies are online together.

So- if I (or you) are seeing any doctor for anything (like suppose, a "rape" as has been in the headlines recently), under Obamacare, every medical provider and insurer and God knows every hacker in the world would know about it. So much for HIPAA. In other words, if you go to your doctor in the unfortunate event you have been "raped," it will be all over the information superhighway, REQUIRED by Obamacare. WHERE ARE THE HIPPIES WHO USED TO PROTEST BIG BROTHER/BIG GOVERNMENT? They are eerily silent, or like most Americans, ignorant of the socialist medicine Obamacare truly is. Our government should not be making our healthcare decisions or exploiting our health issues. Just saying I am quite upset about it because I did not realize the ramifications of the small print in the bill until today, and we have not begun to scratch the surface as Obamacare is just beginning to be implemented. Also, anyone over 70 is considered a "unit" not a person, and the "unit"'s value (whether treatment is warranted, i.e., whether they should even get treatment) is left to an idiot, or a panel of them. THAT IS IMMORAL!

wait till ICD-10 gets implemented. Instead of being coded 466.0 for "bronchitis", you will be coded 3W5K95.3 for Bronchitis induced by smoking cigarettes while voting republican and owning a gun. I am not making this up. The new system will imbed so much personal data in the code alone that you will no longer have any privacy. My biggest beef as a doctor is that insurance companies make their insured go get physicals and then collect the biometric and lab data. That is a total breach of the doctor patient relationship. Think about that the next time your employer makes you get a wellness physical.

The government guarantees health care coverage via Medicare. Now we are shocked that the payor is interested in the habits of the populace? The good news, sort of, is that the entirety of the system will fail under its own weight and helping step on it are doctors who will all rebuke being told to work for less than their value.

What to do? Eat less and move more.

Wow......now I'm a unit. Who'd a thunk it?

What you probably don't realize is that this began many years ago in Seattle, Washington, not Massachusetts and certainly not Washington, DC.

The first to go through this reclassification was actually a union worker who periodically took advantage of the union-negotiated medical benefits. However, he was not even 70 but was much younger when they dehumanized him by referring to him as a "unit." In fact, given his unusual height (6' 10"), they actually modified the nomenclature and began referring to the gentleman, Mr. Randall Johnson, as . . . wait for it . . . "The "Big Unit."

Look it up. It's true.

uh...KF, I think you should check the accuracy of this person's understanding and interpretation of her experience.

Don't fall into Akin's trap of believing something someone told him without checking it out further.

Medical records have been computerized for quite some time.

Any sense of privacy and security she imagined were pretty much imagined. Her friends and family still don't have access without her permission unless they are first rate hackers.

Obamacare does not kick in until 2014. I don't know she experienced.

Anonymous said...

numerous aspects of the Affordable Health Care Act were implemented immediately, some were grandfathered without full understanding of how to implement them. Saying it "does not kick in until 2014" is ignorant.

Medical records have been computerized but that's not the writer's concern. The healthcare bill mandates sharing of individual's records in the states' exchanges which is provided through the federal Department of Health and Human Services. HHS has full authority over those records and share those records with the IRS, Homeland Security, etc. Additionally it provides for HHS to make broad healthcare policy decisions (like an individual insurance company) that would affect the individual based on their healthcare record and not on the physicians recommendations. This is the mechanism that is supposedly there to lower healthcare costs.

How soon after the reading of the bill here has led to such misunderstanding.

You've obviously fallen right into Akin's trap of believing you know better.

You think Frank Zappa had Obamacare in mind when he named his kid Moon Unit?

6:54; Can you elaborate on your remark re an employer 'making you get a wellness physical'?

LOL 10:01....that's a good one...very funny! Obama must be defeated in November or we are all screwed! Even more important than turning over Obamacare is getting someone in office who will strengthen and not weaken our relationship with Israel.

If you take a close look at what's going on over there, we are very close to witnessing a situation which could trigger the beginning of the end. I'll leave it at that as I don't like to get to much into doomsday talk because only God knows the time of the end. However, even the Bible tells you that there will be signs and I believe some of those are blatantly staring us in the face!

9:50 That part doesn't kick in until 2014 (or never if your organization keeps getting a waiver). Mississippi has not set up an exchange yet, so how can her records be shared as your note cliams?

Again, I don't know what she experienced but an electronic health record, although it will be used in Obamacare (unless repealed), is not currently being used for hat purpose because the infrastructure does not exist.

Anonymous said...

10:29, your facts are getting in the way of a really good rant. Please take it somewhere else. Next thing you know, someone will mention that health insurance companies have maintained these electronic databases for decades.

Our government (at the direction of the insurance industry) is doing some very scary things, but Obama (like most politicians) is just a pawn. The Repubs, who, coincidentally, have the same campaign contributors, are totally "on board" with data mining, too.

But keep fighting the white/black, Republican/Democrat, gay/straight, Christian/other fight until the real people you should be fighting against take everything from you.

Anonymous said...

I'm not persuaded by either side's arguments this five minutes.

But, 10:59 am has a point . If the federal government can't keep Wikileaks from learning their secrets, why do on earth would anyone believe anything about you on a computer is " secure"?

And, y'all might ought to have worried about government access to information that HAD been protected before all the Homeland Security laws went into effect.

But, REALLY, long ago, from the doctor's lounge to their wives' ears to the grapevine " violated" privacy before before there were computers!

You all let me know how you're going to get this horse back in the barn!

Can't wait to read DonnerKay's health records.

Anonymous said...

I'm confused by her reaction. It seems she's been hiding under a rock where medical records are concerned. Not only are the majority of records now scanned electronically and kept in online vaults but the MIB keeps a detailed comprehensive medical history based on medical billing codes. MIB maintains a record on almost everyone who has applied for an individually underwritten life, health, critical illness, disability or long term care insurance policy within the last 14 years.

I took my son to the doctor the other day and had to fill out some new forms. Something about who I would allow to be granted access to his medical records. I think you could choose or choose to not provide access. Is this what she is talking about? Not sure what she is talking about. Not sure she is sure what she is talking about.

Anonymous said...

Some of you obviously have not read the ACA.
Statistics will be kept to track various health issues but not the individuals names on the shared records. Medical records have been computerized for years. Any doctor affiliated with a hospital can access the patients records and vice versa. The medical insurance companies can also access.
The ACA will actually improve medical care and strengthen Medicare, notwithstanding what some will claim..Comments without reading the bill are usually out of bounds.
As for the commentator referencing Israel you have missed the boart and have drunk the koolaide.

Anonymous said...

this bears repeating, especially to those that suggest others read the bill that had to be passed before we knew what was in it:

The healthcare bill mandates sharing of individual's records in the states' exchanges which is provided through the federal Department of Health and Human Services. HHS has full authority over those records and share those records with the IRS, Homeland Security, etc. Additionally it provides for HHS to make broad healthcare policy decisions (like an individual insurance company) that would affect the individual based on their healthcare record and not on the physicians recommendations. This is the mechanism that is supposedly there to lower healthcare costs.

The data to be shared is raw claims data for use in determining individual actuarial risks. It is said that for effective individual risk adjustment, creating practical ways to aggregate the increasingly detailed individual health care record that allows for the kind of flexibility that is required in the heterogeneous environment in which the exchanges will be launched, is necessary to implementation of bill's goals.

"As for the commentator referencing Israel you have missed the boart and have drunk the koolaide."

Really? Did I miss the "boart"? I suggest you try reading the Bible, you might learn something. Learning how to spell would be a good start....so you can actually understand what it is you are trying to read!

Anonymous said...

Fletch, Oh I can spell just fine. Little typo and you try to make your response about that. I know quite well how to read and also to understand what I read. I rely on my eyes and my mind not what some John Bircher want to be tells me.
I have read the Bible many times and understand clearly the path laid out for believers in our Lord and Savior. That path does not include excluding anyone, does not leave the beaten man in the ditch, feeds the hungry, cares for all of our fellow man. Also driving the money lenders out of the temple which clearly equates to the greedy that would subjugate the poor and the middle class. I am wealthy with blessings beyond belief. The ACA provides for care of many more people than the prior system and the system that the Republicans would take this country back to. The USA is the greatest country in the world but we are way down the line as far as our healthcare.

Fletch F. Fletch said...

9:05.....you are right....we should simply follow the role of Greece and fall into the same trap they did by continuing to give people a reason to do NOTHING in return for something!

However, that having been said, my comment about the Bible had absolutely zero to do with that. Rather, as I said in the original post, the Bible points out that while no man shall know the end of time.....the wise man (Believer) will see signs.

Now, without going into great depth, for example, knowledge will increase, people will travel to and fro, people will seek the word of God but shall not find it. In other words, many will believe they are following the Bible but it will be the words of false prophets, exactly as the Bible predicted. If you'd like further information on any of this I'd be glad to give you some stats but don't ask unless you think you can handle the truth.

When I mention false prophets I am not talking about merely individuals. I am talking about the many religions that distort the truth of the Bible for their own agenda!

Amazingly, on the one hand, you seem like an intelligent, reasonable person. Yet, at the same time you come down on me about my resonse to your post and how I made it "All about your typo". Seriously? Your post had absolutely NOTHING to do with me until the final sentence in which you said...."As for the commentator referencing Israel you have missed the boart and have drunk the koolaide."

Exactly how am I supposed to respond to that? You called me out pal?....not the other way around!

Fletch F. Fletch said...

Another thing 9:05.....we are way down the line as far as our healthcare goes....WTF...seriously? I guess that's why we have everyone else in the World coming over here for all of the approved procedures and everyone over here going over there for the experimental procedures....right?

Get a freakin' clue! Perhaps one day, when you are older, you will get your dream and it will be "FREE" healthcare for all. you will be sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours straight before the nurse comes out and informs you that based on what's best for the country as a whole, you are not worth saving....SORRY....you are too old!

There is no such thing as "Free" healthcare....unless you want to give up certain rights....like your right to live!

Anonymous said...

Never said anything about free healthcare.

As for being older-how old might that be? I may be older than you and given your rant I may be wiser. Your statements about our healthcare are right out of the right wing playbook. This is the John Birch script to the letter currently funded by the sons of one of the founders of the JBS. Ask any Canadian they don't wait hours to see a doctor or months for a necessary procedure. They may wait for elective surgery.
As to your comment about Israel-I am sorry but I disagree with your interpretation of our President's support of Israel.

Fletch F. Fletch said...

3:41....I have too many friends who are doctors so it's more like....right out of the doctor playbook! And if you really think it's so much better elsewhere then by all means, please LEAVE and go live there! No, you never said anything about free healthcare...you didn't have to after you said we were way down the line as far as healthcare goes. What the Hell else would that have meant? It sure as Hell can't be about the quality of our doctors as we have the best and the most advanced procedures in the World!

"As to your comment about Israel-I am sorry but I disagree with your interpretation of our President's support of Israel."

Huh? What freakin' support of Isael? You have got to be kidding me! The so-called president is a Bafoon who needs not let the door hit him in the ass on the way out. You can do the same when you decide to pack for Canada!

Here you go 3:41....

Rick Baker helps people, and sometimes even saves lives. He describes a man who had a seizure and received a diagnosis of epilepsy. Dissatisfied with the opinion—he had no family history of epilepsy, but he did have constant headaches and nausea, which aren’t usually seen in the disorder—the man requested an MRI. The government told him that the wait would be four and a half months. So he went to Baker, who arranged to have the MRI done within 24 hours—and who, after the test discovered a brain tumor, arranged surgery within a few weeks.

Baker isn’t a neurosurgeon or even a doctor. He’s a medical broker, one member of a private sector that is rushing in to address the inadequacies of Canada’s government care. Canadians pay him to set up surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, and specialist consultations, privately and quickly. “I don’t have a medical background. I just have some common sense,” he explains. “I don’t need to be a doctor for what I do. I’m just expediting care.”

That was from "The Ugly Truth About Canadian Health Care" by David Gratzer....the headline read..."Socialized medicine has meant rationed care and lack of innovation. Small wonder Canadians are looking to the market."

Have fun in Canada...

My Biloxi born 2nd trimester pregnant niece miscarried in the bathroom of a Canadian hospital emergency room after 11 hours waiting to see a doctor. It would have been her 2nd child, her 1st a perfectly normal uneventful vaginal birth. Her Canadian husband was nearly arrested by intolerant Canadian authorities due to his frustration, anguish and rage as the completely avoidable episode unfolded. A Canadian police officer stood nearby in the hallway as she miscarried in that bathroom. She has given birth to 2 more children since that terrible day each time crossing the border to have the delivery in Seattle. They subsequently relocated to Portland, Oregon. Any person who tells you the Canadian healthcare system doesn't have long waits for even basic needs doesn't know what they are talking about.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
