Deryl Dedmon case: Clockwork Orange in reality

Convicted killer Deryl Dedmon and his fellow droogs apparently saw Clockwork Orange too many times as they engaged in a big bit of the old ultra-violence in west Jackson. The federal case against Mr. Dedmon, Dylan Butler, and John Rice provides the gory details on what these guys did for kicks. A Saturday night party apparently meant getting into the trucks and rampaging through west Jackson, picking on blacks and the homeless.

The indictment provides a glimpse into the world of Little Deryl:

"It was part of the Conspiracy that the defendants and co-conspirators A, B, C, and D, all young white men and women, would drive around west Jackson during the night and early morning hours looking for African American persons to verbally harass and physically assault.

The co-conspirators would use dangerous weapons, including, but not limited to beer bottles, sling shots (yes, you read that right), shod feet, and motor vehicles to attempt to cause bodily injury to African American persons in and around west Jackson. On occasion, the co-conspirators were successful at causing bodily injury to African American persons.

The defendants and the other co-conspirators would particularly target individuals they believed to be homeless and/or under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances because they believed such victims would be less likely to report on an assault.

These con-conspirators would encourage each other to cause bodily injury to and to use dangerous weapons in attempting to cause bodily injury to African American persons in west Jackson
."

Apparently the perps were proud of their little misdeeds:

"The defendants and their co-conspirators boasted about their participation in racially-motivated physical assaults in west Jackson on prior occasions which involved the use of dangerous weapons and/or resulted in bodily injury to African American victims, thereby keeping other members of the conspiracy informed of their actions. .."

The indictment repeats facts about the James Anderson murder that are unfortunately and already too well-known. It does state Dedmon's crew was armed with a handgun and even concocted a story: There was no plan to harass blacks and they were simply trying to help James Anderson get into his truck because "he appeared to be locked out", and blame the victim for starting the fight.

The statement then provides more details on the group's prior history. Dedmon and Rice committed several acts of violence between April 2011 and June 26, 2011. They chased down a black man near a golf course. After they caught him, they beat and kicked him until he begged them not to kill him. "Members of the group thought it was funny that the man pleaded for his life." The group threw beer bottles at blacks later that night.

The Dedmon droogs decided to do their own version of joyriding another night. They thought it was funny to chase a black man in the parking lot of a gas station with their vehicle. Then there was yet another night where they found another black man in a deserted parking lot. They harassed him and then punched him in the face while the others laughed. Dedmon threw a beer bottle at a black man, hitting his target in the back of the head on another occasion. They did this on other nights as well.

However, Dedmon's targets were not always black. One white male student at Brandon High School stated on a Facebook post Dedmon hit him with his truck and his brother captured it on video. The image below contains the post. Law enforcement officials say the investigation is still active and there may be more prosecutions.

KF, Thank you for posting on this story. Any Mississippian who believes that outrageous racial animus doesn't exist should pay close attention to this story. Dedmon learned this behavior from his family and peers, and that is disgraceful.

And when, pray tell, did you meet his family to form such an opinion?

Oh, my God in Heaven, help this society that lives among us! How does anyone, much less gangs, develop such a depraved heart; one capable of laughing and enjoying the cause of horrific pain and panic in helpless individuals?
These evil beings will join gangs in prisons and send orders to their free followers to continue conducting these unforgivable actions. Dedmond should be put to death before he spreads more outrageous destruction.

Is there any news on the civil suit the family of the victim is filing?

Who were the other teenagers that were present at the time of the murder? I have seen reports that say there were 12 teens that were present, why are only 3 of those 12named? Any word on who the others were?

There is as much "REVERSE Racism hate" in this state as there is racism. But when you have a governor pardoning murderers and a DA that only wants to prosecute white on black crime, what do you expect.

Pick up the paper. EVERY DAY some sorry ass black thugs are fucking up one way or the other. Every GD day. EVERY DAY. I am so sick of these collective pieces of shit.

Dedmon is a piece of shit. there are 20 black pieces of shit in the paper EVERY DAY.

1:05 - I, too, recognize and experience reverse racism almost any day when out and about. They're the unhelpful, rude, intentionally dismissive of my presence sales clerks, food servers, workers in state office buildings, etc. Surely all caucasians in this state have experienced the undeserved mistreatment, too. Personally, I've grown tired of their hateful attitude and have begun calling them out on it. The most they can do is pull out their weapon and kill me for voicing the truth.
One of my mother's best friends was a dignified black lady who sends her flower bouquets on her birthdays. One of my dearest friends is also a lovely black lady whom I admire. So not all blacks are unkind and mean to us. Some are worthy of being called a friend.

I don't remember the vicelord killings and rapings at the metro center in the late 80's and early 90's getting this much attention. It's not a racial thing its a mentally retarded thing.

Any way you cut it this is a really bad deal, a man is dead and theses thugs killled him.

Blaming the parents of adult children is just stupid. By the age of 16 or 17, most teenagers don't listen to their parents, anyway. They do want they want to do. Parents cannot follow teenagers around 24/7. When kids hit 18, law enforcement doesn't call the parents anymore. If the kids make bad decisions, it's their decisions, not the parents. I know the families of two of these boys, and they NEVER raised these boys to hate blacks. One of the boys was very close friends with black teammates on his football team.

I do know the Dedmon kid was trouble for a long time, and no one did anything to stop him.

Anyone who participated in this was not "very close friends" with his black teammates. And if the Dedmon kid was trouble for a long time, why were these other young adults associating with him? Sounds like they must have known what kind of person he was.

Some kids are easily led. Remember Luke Woodham? His parents didn't raise him to be that way but he and his friends had their little group and we all know what they did.

I think what these punks were were bullies. Make no mistake, they were racists too, but at heart they were bullies. yes, they would go to West Jackson to hurt black people but they were just as fine hurting a white person that got in their way as well. Hope they go to a state pen instead of federal prison. I don't think Dedmon was sorry one bit.

Oh, and I went to the Council of Conservative Citizens website yesterday to see if this murder was on there. Nope. All kinds of posts of white victims and minority perps, but not a single one about this one. Surprise.

Good and decent people of both races should ban together against those who are neither good nor decent.

It isn't useful for either race to use the examples of their victimization in this or any other incident of crime. Rather, we should each acknowledge we have criminals who share ONLY our skin color among us. To do otherwise, only fuels racism.

Focusing on which race is worse and thus living in the past ,as we can't talk about that which hasn't yet happened, is not working.

We need to focus on preventing those among us who are racists , who are criminals, from succeeding in causing havoc.

In all the awful news of the past week or so, I'd like to know more about the 70 year old who got himself out of the trunk of the car in Madison. We can learn from that guy. Was his name MacGyver?

Parents aren't helpless when faced with bad peer group influence.

Teens and pre-teens are often attracted to the " bad girl", " bad boy" or bully. Parents have to be very aware of who the peer group is and what sort of kids their kid is befriending.

Most obvious is that these parents weren't waiting up for their kids or making sure if they spent the night away from home, there were adults supervising.

If a child has been drinking and you are up when they come up, YOU should know it. Indeed, you should be able to tell if they are doing drugs if you familiarize yourself with the odor and/or physical symptoms. Simply being awake and your child knowing they have to talk to you stops a lot of potential problems.

Also, your kids need to understand consequences and the law. They need to know that just being in the wrong place with the wrong people can result in consequences that can ruin their lives long before they go out on their own.

And, frankly, making sure your child grows up knowing that your family believes that those who are racist are ignorant or just plain stupid and why, goes a long way.

Pointing out to your child that they feel happier around happy , positive people and less happy around those who are angry and mean spirited goes a long way as well. Suggesting they make friends with those who are pleasant and they will attract people if THEY are pleasant also is helpful.

These messages don't begin at age 12. These messages are delivered whenever the opportunity arises in simple terms long before children start school. " Oh, didn't we have fun with John Doe? He's just a fun, happy, nice person". Or, " Oh, wasn't that lady unpleasant. She would spoil someone's day if we let her".

And, there are ways to prepare your child to deal with the bullies in life. Bullies target the weak and insecure. You have to start by making clear a bully IS, in reality, the weakest and most insecure person in the room and someone who is unworthy of consideration. They shouldn't be taken seriously. Start by making sure your child stands up straight, shoulders squared and walks into a room with confidence. And should worse come to worst, you make sure your child is able to confidently respond to force with more effective force.

Parenting is hard work and something you have to learn how to do. I expect these parents did the best they could with what they knew, they just failed to see they needed to learn more skills and start sooner.

If you just rely on spanking for control, you lose control when the kid gets bigger and stronger than you are. If you expect a couple of days a week at church , in the absence of a concerted effort at home, to overcome the rest of the week, you will be disappointed.

It's not television, it's not peer group influence, it's not teachers, it's not religion or the lack thereof, it's parenting unless your child or teen has a nedical cause for their bad behavior...in that case seek treatment...and you have my sympathy.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
