Redistricting fireworks at the Hinds BOS last night. Video of entire meeting, map, census posted.

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing last night on redistricting. The Board hired Derrick Johnson to  handle the redistricting chores. JJ video-taped the entire hearing and posted it below. Before watching the video, it is important to remember several things:

1. The hiring of Mr. Johnson was not posted on the agenda for the December 20, 2010 meeting.

2. The notice for the hearing was not posted on the bulletin board in the Courthouse. It was not posted on the county website until the afternoon of the hearing after this correspondent personally visited the office of the County Administrator. The notice was posted in the Jackson Advocate (The law requires posting either in newspaper OR at the courthouse) and it is unknown if it was posted in the Clarion-Ledger.

3. No maps or materials were provided by Mr. Johnson to the audience. No maps were on display. This was a stark contrast to the Madison County hearing yesterday where the Board, yes, Tim, Karl, and Paul, had giant displays of maps and passed out documents containing maps, district information, and a copy of the board resolution.

Mr. Johnson stated at the beginning of the hearing the only matter to be discussed was the criteria to be used. He only wanted comments or "input" on what "criteria" should be used in setting the new lines. Voters repeatedly asked for maps and precinct information only to be told there were none to distribute and the meeting was for criteria discussion only. The meeting grew testy at times and frankly, Mr. Johnson was very arrogant and rude to the audience. Just watch the video, everything will pretty much explain itself. The video is nearly an hour long but worth watching as it will show everyone exactly what goes on down at the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.

Note: Mr. Graham and Mr. Fisher were not present. WLBT, the Clarion-Ledger, and the Northside Sun covered the hearing.

Here are is the one thing Mr. Johnson did provide to the audience: some census numbers:

Since Derrick Johnson and the Board won't provide you with maps, here is one from 2002 created by CMPDD:

Watched it all. Agreed with everything except the "KKK" analogy. Not the strongest argument.

Hold them accountable. What a great example, again, of representative Democracy!

Great job inspiring folks with insights to action!

No complaining going on this site, or by its readers, just taking back what has been overlooked and left to wither on the vine.

Supervisor (Brigadier General) Phil Fisher is serving our Country as Commander of the largest Brigade in Afghanistan, the 184th Sustainment Command. This hero is authorized to miss Board meetings during his tour of duty. Click here to see his military bio We need more servants like him!

Painful as it was I watched the entire clip. When all is considered, i.e. the handling of Johnson's hiring and the farce that was this public hearing, I'd say the Hinds County Board of Supervisors has been caught doing exactly what they planned to do all along. Which was redraw district lines secretively and without regard to providing the public with input or review. Smith's fumbling comments and feigned ignorance about half-way through the clip regarding following the necessary procedural steps and notifications for the hiring of Johnson said it all.

It is little wonder why Hinds has lost populaton over the last 20 years. It has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with utter incompetence and corruption.

Could've killed the guy who made the klan analogy. Very stupid comment. The NAACP is on the same level as the Klan? Completely idiotic comment.

Free speech isn't always pretty.

Looked like Sup Smith had you good and steamed.

Well, he was flat wrong and I'd already had that same discussion with Mrs. Martin and Mrs. H-C. they didn't believe me either until I showed it to them.

He was flat wrong. From the video I'm concluding he knew it and was purposefully fudging the truth.

A caller to Gallo this morning while Hosemann was on claims the HindsCo Sups produced a receipt for the supposed Jackson Advocate ad ... dated yesterday and that the actual ad in print has yet to be found.

The number one rule of practice of Public Hearings, is providing visual aids and handouts. If CMPDD was hired, they most likely would have provided visual aids and pamphlets.

But this guy is doing is a twice the cost!

He sounds very hostile from the get go--also not a good Public Hearing tactic.

What a charade!!! Looks like Hinds County Board of Supervisors decisions have gone from bad to worse!

Click here to read inaccurate and misleading Clarion Ledger article

There is no requirement that county redistricting must be done by Tuesday... it's impossible. Wonder if they have even considered school board districts and justice court districts which also must be redrawn!?

What is amazing to me is how many people actually watched the whole video. Nice job.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
